Google, Microsoft, and what the Dell?

The soap opera for Dell (NASDAQ:DELL) continues with Michael Dell and Carl Ichan, the principal figures in this financial showdown. It's too early to say what's going to happen, but my money will be with Carl Ichan on this one. Michael Dell has had this time with the company and the stock which is what shareholders thought didn't do well under his stewardship. On the other hand, Carl Ichan has done very with his investments and has a track record of being a "disruptive force in the boardroom".

NEWS FLASH: Just this morning it was announced we are going to have to wait until the 24th of July when everyone is going to reconvene to have another meeting on taking Dell private.

Change equals opportunity and Mr. Ichan does represent change. He also has a successful track record and is holding substantial stakes in companies like, RJR Nabisco, TWA, Texaco, Phillips Petroleum, Western Union, Gulf & Western, Viacom, Uniroyal, Dan River, Marshall Field's, E-II (Culligan and Samsonite), American Can, USX, Marvel Comics, Revlon, Imclone, Federal-Mogul, Fairmont Hotels, Blockbuster, Kerr-McGee, Time Warner, Motorola, Netflix and Herbalife.

Can Mr. Ichan turn Dell around? Fortunately or unfortunately we are going to have to wait until the 24th of July to find out the fate of Dell.

After the bell, Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) is expected to announce earnings of $10.78 per share vs $10.12 per share last year. I will be looking at that stock today and doing a quick analysis of what I think is going to happen after the earnings are announced.

Likewise, Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) is expected to announce earnings $0.75 per share vs $0.67 per share last year. I will also take a look at that stock today and see if Microsoft has what it takes to compete in the new mobile world.

Today's Video Update: Apple's Big Day And Waze To Go Google

Hello traders everywhere! Adam Hewison here, President of INO.com and Co-creator of MarketClub, with your mid-day market update for Monday, the 10th of June.

Apple's Big Day
Today, Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) kicks off its developers conference in San Francisco. This is the day that the Apple-faithful have been patiently waiting for. It is widely speculated that Apple will announce IOS 7, a new operating system, and perhaps some other upgrades. No new disruptive technologies are expected to be announced at this conference, but with Apple you never know. One of the presenters today is Sir Jonathan Paul "Jony" Ive, who is the genius designer for many of Apple's most recent products. In my opinion, Jony was the main creative force behind Steve Jobs. The new operating system is rumored to be cleaner, simpler and “flatter”, moving away from the skeuomorphic design. Apple is also expected to announce a new music service that's going to go head-to-head with the likes of Pandora, Spotify, and other online streaming music platforms. Let's put everything in perspective, Apple has 500 million users, Pandora has less than 70 million. Mathematically, this gives Apple a huge advantage in terms of creating a really successful, new income-producing music service. Initially iRadio, as the name is rumored to be, will be supported by ads, and eventually it will end up becoming a recurring revenue product. I will be covering Apple in today's daily update. Will Yahoo's Billion Dollar Bet Sink The Company?

On May 20th, Marissa Mayer, the recently installed CEO of Yahoo (NASDAQ:YHOO), announced that Yahoo had acquired Tumblr, a micro blogging website for 1.1 billion dollars. This was her first major acquisition as the head honcho at Yahoo.

Make no mistake about it, this is a big bet for Yahoo. The question on every investors' mind is, will this acquisition work out for Yahoo?

Unlike Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), Twitter, and Google (NASDAQ:GOOG), all of whom stand for something, Yahoo is the odd man out as it lacks an identity. For example, we think of Amazon as a shopping site, Twitter for instant messaging and Google for search, but what about Yahoo? What does Yahoo stand for?

Marissa Mayer's acquisition of Tumblr was meant to make a bold statement and jump start Yahoo in a new, and hopefully cool, direction. Reviews on the Tumblr acquisition so far have been mixed. Today, we are going to take an in-depth look into the stock of Yahoo (NASDAQ:YHOO) and its previous failed acquisitions. Who remembers GeoCities, Broadcast, and Flickr? I'm going to carefully analyze Yahoo's price action and share with you some insight as to what I think is going to happen to this stock.

The initial feedback I received in a recent sneak preview of this video has been extremely positive, and in several cases it was described as an "eye opener" for many of these viewers. The video runs for about 6 1/2 minutes.

Today's Video Update: Are You Planning On Buying An Electric Car?

Hello traders everywhere! Adam Hewison here, President of INO.com and Co-creator of MarketClub, with your mid-day market update for Friday, the 17th of May.

Tesla Soars As Excitement Builds For Electric Cars
This week, Tesla Motors (NASDAQ:TSLA) soared as investors rushed into buying shares of America's only electric car company. Shares of Tesla jumped 19.72% for the week as of this writing and are closing in on new high ground. Of course, this must make Elon Musk and investors in this stock very, very happy. You may want to take a look at my earlier video on Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) here.

Gold Loses Big Time This Week
The price of gold plummeted this week with losses of over 5% as investors jumped out of this once precious metal and into US and Japanese stocks. If gold closes where it is currently trading at $1,363 on the spot market, it will represent a new low weekly close for the year. Such a close would indicate further downside pressure for this metal. Technically, we cannot rule out a test of the $1300 level. Continue reading "Today's Video Update: Are You Planning On Buying An Electric Car?"

Today's Video Update: The Beat Goes On

Hello traders everywhere! Adam Hewison here, President of INO.com and Co-creator of MarketClub, with your mid-day market update for Wednesday, the 15th of May.

Google Music?
Word on the street is that Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) is set to announce today a new streaming music service, one that will compete against Pandora and Spotify. Once again, it seems as though Google wants to be everything to everybody, and whether Google can compete in the music business and be successful remains to be seen. Should you buy or sell Google? If you haven't watched my Google trading video on how to trade Google successfully, you can watch it here.

The Beat Goes On
Stock prices hit a high yesterday as more and more disenfranchised short sellers are covering their shorts and exiting this market. So far, this market has not yielded to any downside pressure or correction to the surprise of many professional traders. What I do know, is that trends tend to persist longer than expected, and that they don't ring a bell at the top of any market. In a recent blog poll, we asked readers what they thought of the market: Continue reading "Today's Video Update: The Beat Goes On"
