Palladium Has Justified Expectations

In my previous post about Palladium, I had used a different look for the technicals by implementing the ab/cd concept and Fibonacci ratios together. In that post, on the monthly chart I had assumed that the 50% Fibonacci retracement level ($528) could hardly be cracked by sellers and had confirmed it by using the weekly chart where the cd=1.618 of ab ends almost at the same level ($539).

Below is the weekly chart with details to show how the reversal has happened.

The price of Palladium has slightly overshot the 50% Fibonacci level ($528) down to $520. It’s amazing, but these ratios work like Swiss watches: precise and reliable and, of course, there are a lot of market players who use them every day. Continue reading "Palladium Has Justified Expectations"

Ride The Oil Recovery With This Driller

Daniel Cross - INO.com Contributor - Equities

Contrarian plays can often pay off for investors that are willing to weather some short-term volatility. The oil industry has experienced pain for over a year now which began late in the summer of last year as oil prices fell to lows that hadn't been seen in a decade. This weakness has created some value opportunities, though, with oil stocks now trading at discounted prices.

Global growth concerns have weighed heavily on energy demands while a supply glut has kept oil low. However, oil may be facing a bullish cycle over the next quarter with more upside to come for 2016. Demand is growing again and oil supply for next year is estimated to be tighter than previously expected. Since August, oil prices have traded in the $45 to $50 range indicating that it has finally settled and reached a bottom. Continue reading "Ride The Oil Recovery With This Driller"

This Stock Could Help Your Portfolio Take Off

Daniel Cross - INO.com Contributor - Equities

As the broader indexes experience higher volatility, new opportunities are available for savvy investors who aren't afraid of taking risks. In a market that's swung up and down by hundreds of basis points on multiple trading days, a stock that's been climbing higher on a relatively consistent basis is worth a second look.

As investors begin to resemble Chicken Little, afraid the sky is falling and the economy is about to reverse course, it helps to take a step back and take a wider view. If we examine the transportation industry – often heralded as a leading economic indicator – those red alarms don't seem to be quite as valid as you might think. Don't Look Now, But McDonald's Hit A New 52 Week High

As part of my daily routine, I use Smart Scan to look for stocks hitting new 52-week highs. I was shocked today when I saw McDonald's on the list. I can honestly say that McDonald's hadn't crossed my mind as of late, other than when the talking heads on TV talk about how poorly the company is performing here in the United States. And yet there it was, making a new 52-week high of 101.44 yesterday. Not only that, but it's closing in on the all-time high of 103.78 on 5/14/14.

It just so happens that I took my youngest son out to lunch yesterday and of course he wanted to go to McDonald's. So we jumped in the truck and headed over to the brand new one that they built in my town. Yes, I said new one. There are now two in this little town, the established one that's been here forever and the new one about 3 miles north of the old and on the other side of town. I remember asking myself, will the new one be busy? Will it take away to much business from the old one? I guess time will tell.

NYSE:MCD

We pull up to the new one, and I notice that they still have a "Now Hiring" sign out front, and I think, "Oh boy, this isn't going to go well." As I walk in, I'm hit with the newness and completely different look and feel of this McDonald's. It's very futuristic and almost characterless honestly. I also notice that there is a line of cars around the building and 5-6 people waiting on food inside with looks of disdain on their faces. As I turn to get in line, I notice that they only have one person working the counter with a line of people waiting. As people start to complain about the wait I make an executive decision, "kid, were going to the other one" and we leave. Continue reading "Don't Look Now, But McDonald's Hit A New 52 Week High"

New Week, New Month, New Opportunities

It's hard to believe how quickly this summer has passed, but here we are already in August.

Traditionally August is the hottest month of the year, but the question is, will the markets get hot in August and start moving up?

Let's take a look at what happened in July to find out which markets put smiles on investors' faces and which markets led some investors to the poor house.

The biggest loser last month in the major market category is crude oil, which lost an astounding 21.2% for the month of July. The next biggest loser was gold, which must have put a shudder in the spines of the gold bugs (do bugs have spines?).

The euro, while it lost ground, was nothing compared to the other two markets with a mere loss of 1.4%. All three of these markets did nothing to put a smile on investors faces unless they were either short or you had puts in the options market. Continue reading "New Week, New Month, New Opportunities"
