A Monetary Master Explains Inflation

By Terry Coxon, Senior Economist

[Ed. note: One of the best things about being a partner in a research firm employing about 40 analysts is that I have unfettered access to really smart people. While we have a great team with expertise across the spectrum, when it comes to monetary matters, my go-to guy is Terry Coxon, a senior editor for our flagship publication, The Casey Report.

Terry cut his teeth working side by side for years with the late Harry Browne, the economist and prolific author of a number of groundbreaking books, including the 1970 classic, How You Can Profit from the Coming Devaluation. The timing of Harry's book should catch your eye, because his analysis that the dollar was headed for a big fall was spot on. Anyone paying attention made a lot of money. Weekly Futures Recap W/Mike Seery

We’ve asked Michael Seery of SEERYFUTURES.COM to give our INO readers a weekly recap of the Futures market. He has been Senior Analyst for close to 15 years and has extensive knowledge of all of the commodity and option markets.

Michael frequently appears on multiple business networks including Bloomberg news, Fox Business, CNBC Worldwide, CNN Business, and Bloomberg TV. He is also a guest on First Business, which is a national and internationally syndicated business show.

Grain Futures--- The grain market continued its bearish momentum this week pushing corn near 3 year lows trading far below its 20 and 100 day moving average settling this week at 4.52 of bushel right at session lows this Friday afternoon and down about $.10 for the trading week as U.S crop conditions are excellent at this point in time. Traders are waiting Monday afternoon’s USDA report which could surprise the market in either direction but as I’ve been stating in many previous blogs I continue to remain bearish this entire complex and I’m still advising traders to be short across the board. Soybean futures for the November contract are still trading below their 20 and 100 day moving average basically settling unchanged for the trading week and are much stronger than corn or wheat but it hit contract lows in Wednesday’s trade before rallying $.20 yesterday as traders are awaiting the supply/ demand and production numbers Monday afternoon. We've asked our friend Jim Robinson of profittrading.com to provide his expert analysis of charts to our readers. Each week he'll be be analyzing a different chart using the Trade Triangles and his experience.

Today he is going to take a look at the technical picture of October Live Cattle. (CME_LE.V13.E).

This week let's take a look at October Live Cattle futures.

When trading futures with the MarketClub system, we use the weekly MarketClub Trade Triangle to tell trend and the daily MarketClub Trade Triangle to time the trades.

Right now all three MarketClub Trade Triangles, monthly, weekly, and daily are pointing up which gives us the advantage of also having the monthly Trade Triangle pointing up, which is added confirmation that odds are with higher prices for Live Cattle right now. As Argentina Backpedals, Will Oil and Gas Companies Step on the Gas?

The Energy Report: How is the news that Argentina holds the fourth-largest shale oil reserve in the world affecting business plans for companies that operate there?

Bill Newman: The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) report that was released in June 2013 showed that Argentina has a technically recoverable shale oil resource of 27 billion barrels, so it reaffirms the large potential of Argentina. Although the shales plays are in an early stage of appraisal, we don't believe the potential of the shale is the key issue for oil and gas companies investing in Argentina. The political risk is still the chief concern. However, this year the government started to move away from its nationalist policies, so we think the political climate is slowly improving.

TER: When we talked last year, Argentina had recently expropriated the assets of Yacimientos Petrolferos Fiscales (YPF:NYSE) (YPF) from Spain's Repsol (REP:MC) without compensation. And the government temporarily froze the Argentinean assets of Chevron Corp. (CVX:NYSE) in response to a $19 billion ($19B) judgment in Ecuador. Has the danger of nationalization of foreign owned oil and gas assets receded or increased? Continue reading "As Argentina Backpedals, Will Oil and Gas Companies Step on the Gas?"

Today's Video Update: Is this the top of the market?

Hello traders everywhere! Adam Hewison here, President of INO.com and Co-creator of MarketClub, with your mid-day market update for Tuesday, the 6th of August.

Every Market Deserves To Rest Once In A While
The indices appear to be on the defensive today, however that's not say we have reached a top or that the trend has changed from positive to negative. Trend changes tend to take time and usually don't happen overnight. For myself, the "line in the sand" on the DOW (INDEX:DJI) is the 15,400 level. It is at that level where I would exit my long position and move to the sidelines and await the next signal. Moving to the sidelines does not change the bigger trend picture for the DOW. I still remain long-term bullish, providing that the monthly Trade Triangle remains in the green column. Continue reading "Today's Video Update: Is this the top of the market?"
