Is the national love affair with the automobile over?

Driving in America has stalled, leading researchers to ask: Is the national love affair with the automobile over?

After rising for decades, total vehicle use in the U.S. the collective miles people drive peaked in August 2007. It then dropped sharply during the Great Recession and has largely plateaued since, even though the economy is recovering and the population growing. Just this week, the Federal Highway Administration reported vehicle miles traveled during the first half of 2013 were down slightly, continuing the trend. Don't Drink The Froth In Tesla And Netflix's Cups

On Monday, the markets started the day with such promise only to have significant gains erased in seconds late in the day. One could assign blame on the Syria related press conference or just good old-fashioned profit taking.

The froth fizzles first and fastest...

Monday, traders saw how premiums come out fastest out of the frothy tickers. Two cases in point consider. First, Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA): The stock opened up with the markets then at about 1:00 pm E.S.T the markets started the afternoon slide.

Tesla didn't even wait to see how shallow will the pullback be. The stock sold off all the way down to 160 and closed just above that and way off the day high. In the first half of last week’s trade, US equities were under pressure as traders booked gains on long positions in anticipation of a taper from the FED. But by late week, the “buy the dip” mentality that has supported equities for months returned and stopped the bleeding.

Until global markets are finally given the FED’s final decision on their Quantitative Easing plans, I believe traders should expect similar market behavior to what we saw last week. In light volume Summer markets, we should expect decent volatility on any news in the US, and abroad. Lighter volume markets give investors and traders the ability to create exaggerated swings in price with larger lot orders. Continue reading "Gold Chart of The Week"

Got Oil? Two Compelling Reasons To Consider It

By: Scott Andrews of Master The Gap

Trading is full of counter-intuitive ironies.  Some of my favorites include:

"the best time to buy is when everyone else is selling"

"you can not make money, without risking money"

"to make more, you need to trade less"

"you CAN go broke taking profits (too early)"

And here's a lesser known one: Continue reading "Got Oil? Two Compelling Reasons To Consider It"
