It's A Leap Year So Watch Out!

In Ireland, February 29 is Bachelor's Day - a traditional holiday when women propose to men. Scotland began the tradition in 1288 by passing a law permitting women to propose and if refused, the man had to pay a fine. Only in Europe.

Leap years are also election years, as every politician knows, four years is just enough time for the electorate to forget all their broken promises from last time around. Plus, we all must take a giant leap of faith when you go to the polls.

Okay, back to the markets. It is hard to believe that we are rapidly coming to the end of the second full trading month of 2016. The first two months have been extraordinarily volatile with triple digit swings becoming the norm. As we move into March, I expect to see the markets begin to settle down somewhat.

So what's trending so far in 2016? Continue reading "It's A Leap Year So Watch Out!"

It's Not Over Until It's Over And It's Not Over Yet

This is a week that many investors would like to forget. It's the worst beginning of the year for equities since records have been kept.

Investors, some of whom are shell-shocked, are asking themselves, what should I do? Should I be a buyer here? Should I sell everything or should I just remain on the sidelines?

In today's video, I will be sharing with you some interesting views of the major indices that you may not have heard before. I will also be examining six big stocks that aren't so big anymore and what you should or should not be doing with them. Disciplined and Conservative Covered Call Writing To Accentuate Returns And Mitigate Risk

Leveraging covered call options in opportunistic scenarios may augment overall portfolio returns while mitigating risk. In brief, options are a form of derivative trading that traders can utilize in order to initiate a short or long position via the sale or purchase of contacts. An option is a contract which gives the buyer of the contract the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell an underlying security at a specified price on or before a specified date. The seller has the obligation to buy or sell the underlying security if the buyer exercises the option. An option that gives the owner (buyer) the right to buy the security at a specific price is referred to as a call (bullish); an option that gives the right of the owner to sell the security at a specific price is referred to as a put (bearish). In the event of a covered call, this is accomplished by leveraging the shares one currently owns by selling a call contact against those shares for a premium. I will provide an overview of how a covered call is utilized and executed. Here, I’ll provide details focusing on optimizing stock leverage (covered calls). Emphasizing the ability to sell these types of options in a disciplined and conservative manner to generate liquidity while accentuating returns and mitigating risk. Interesting Smart Scan Results That May Surprise You

This morning I was using MarketClub's Smart Scan and noticed something that perfectly reflects the current market conditions we are experiencing right now. The number of chart Scores of +100 and -100 indicating strong upside and downside trends were practically even. This illustrates the lack a unified consensus either way for a strong bull or a bear market.

Eventually this balance will change one way or the other, but for now caution is not a bad word to use or practice in this market.

Are These 5 Popular Stocks Buys Or Sells?

Yesterday the indices came crashing down, breaking through key levels and turning all of the major indicators into strong downtrends. There is no question in my mind that we are now in a full-blown bear market. So how much further down can the market go from here?

I will also be looking at these stocks to determine whether or not they present a buying opportunity based on the recent weakness in the market. Continue reading "Are These 5 Popular Stocks Buys Or Sells?"
