DOW Bounces Back To Set Record Close

The DOW rose 448.23 points or +1.30%, to a record close of 34,870.16 on Friday, a day after losing 259.86 points. The S&P 500 gained +1.13%, closing at an all-time high of 4,369.55, and the NASDAQ rose +0.98% to close at a record of 14,701.92.

NASDAQ and S&P 500 Hit Record Closes

The U.S. stock market rose on Friday, with the NASDAQ and S&P 500 adding to their records for the week when both indexes closed at record highs. The NASDAQ closed up on the day with a gain of +0.81% or 116.95 points to close at 14,639.33, an all-time high. Not to be outdone, the S&P 500 closed that day up +0.75% or +32.45 points to close at 4,325.34, an all-time high. In fact, it rose for a 7th straight day after a strong jobs report, marking its best winning streak in 10 months. The DOW missed out on the record run this week, but it did finish the day up +0.44% or +152.82 points to close at 34,786.35.

S&P 500 Continues Record Run

The U.S. stock market rose on Friday, with the S&P 500 adding to its flurry of records for the week, as traders bet that higher inflation will only be temporary as the U.S. economy continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The S&P 500 climbed +0.33% on the day to hit another closing record high of 4,280.70. The financial sector was the best-performing S&P 500 sector with a +1.3% gain. The DOW rose 237.02 points or +0.69% to 34,433.84, sitting less than 2% from its all-time record high. The NASDAQ erased earlier gains and closed -0.06% lower at 14,360.39 as bond yields rose, with the 10-year Treasury yield jumping 4 basis points to 1.52%.

S&P 500 Posts Another Record Close On Friday

The S&P 500 rose slightly on Friday, climbing +0.2% to post a new record closing high of 4,247.44, its second record close in a row to end the week. The NASDAQ advanced +0.4% to 14,069.42 with Apple, Microsoft, and Netflix all making gains, and the DOW gained 13.36 points or +.04% to 34,479.60.

As for the weekly results, the S&P 500 posted a +0.4% gain marking its third consecutive positive week. Meanwhile, the NASDAQ had the largest gains of the three major indexes, gaining +1.8% for the week and posting its fourth straight winning week in a row. S&P 500 Post Fourth Straight Monthly Gain

The S&P 500 rose slightly on Friday in light trading heading into the long weekend to post its fourth straight monthly gain amid growing optimism over the U.S. economic recovery.

The S&P 500 ended the session up +0.1% to 4,204.11, sitting just 0.8% from its all-time record high. The DOW gained 64.81 points or +.19% 34,529.45, and the NASDAQ inched up +0.1% to close at 13,748.74.
