Did you avoid the BlackBerry meltdown?

Anyone trading the stock of BlackBerry (NASDAQ:BBRY), formally known as Research In Motion, knows that this stock has had its ups and downs over the years. Just lately, it seems like it has been one challenge after another for this once high riding company.

BlackBerry
One of BlackBerry's big problems was that the company failed to recognize that people who bought smartphones wanted to do more with their phones than Blackberrysimply text, receive emails or make phone calls. In other words, they completely missed the app market. These tiny little apps became giant killers and killed off the likes of Nokia and Motorola. Apps are what propelled both Apple and Android to prominence in the last several years. Unfortunately for BlackBerry, they got into the game too late. With only about 100,000 apps, they have only a fraction of what Apple and Android now offer on their smartphones.

I'm going to show you how using one of our simple Trade Triangles could have helped you make money in BlackBerry and helped you avoid disasters like last Friday in this stock.

Our monthly Trade Triangles pretty much nailed BlackBerry at all of its major turning points, as you can see on the chart. Trading is not just about making winning trades, but also protecting your portfolio during dramatic downturns in a market. Our Trade Triangle technology can help you do both. This has been particularly true in stocks like Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX), Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) and stocks that have seen similar big up and down moves.

Apple Unleashes The New iPhones Today

Hello traders everywhere! Adam Hewison here, President of INO.com and Co-creator of MarketClub, with your mid-day market update for Friday, the 20th of September.

Today, Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) began to officially sell its new iPhones, the 5S and 5C, around the world. Long lines were reported in Europe, Asia and here in the States as Apple loyalists lined up to buy the latest and greatest from Apple.

Is Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) going to sell as many of the new iPhones as it has in the past? I think so, many iPhone users myself included, did not upgrade to the iPhone 5 last time. I will be upgrading this time and trading in my 4S for a brand new, fingerprint ready 5S. I think many other Apple users will be doing the same thing in this new product update cycle.

On Wednesday, like many other iPhone users, I downloaded the new IOS7 operating system for the iPhone and iPad. I have to say the new interface is clean, pretty slick, beautifully designed and works like a charm. The good news for everyone is that Apple made this upgrade free of charge. Bernanke Blinks And Addiction Goes On

Hello traders everywhere! Adam Hewison here, President of INO.com and Co-creator of MarketClub, with your mid-day market update for Thursday, the 19th of September.

I have been saying for some time that the Fed is not going to do anything until January 2014, when there will be a change in the chairmanship. It goes back to that fundamental human trait of "wanting everyone to like me." I think Ben Bernanke wants to be seen as a benevolent Fed chairman when he retires in 2014. This is classic Washington politics, where the Fed chairman gives a very gracious speech saying that it's been a challenge and he enjoyed his time as chairman of the Fed, but he'll leave out the part where it's not his problem now.

Whoever becomes the next Fed chairperson will face monumental challenges trying to extricate the country out of this spending binge and gluttony of cheap money. I suspect that had the Fed known they would be no further forward in 2014 when they took this quantitative easing course four years ago, they would have chosen another course of action to stimulate the economy.

Here is a quick question for you, how many zeros are in $1 trillion? Continue reading "Bernanke Blinks And Addiction Goes On"

Sweet Music From Pandora Media

Let me begin by saying that I listen to Pandora (NYSE:P) streaming music from both my iPhone and iPad. I have created several music channels to listen to my favorite music which can be pretty eclectic, ranging from the Beatles to Chinese folk music. I use the free version of Pandora, and am constantly amazed at the breadth of their music repertoire.

Did you see my latest video on Pandora?

Last Monday, I featured Pandora (NYSE:P) in my mid-day video report. I warned against letting the market fool you with the three quiet days it was experiencing. I also said that I was still bullish and expected the market to go higher.

Has NetFlix Topped Out?

We have had a very good run in the stock of Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) and the question now is, has Netflix topped out?

netflixThere is increasing evidence that Netflix is having problems over the $300-$310 area. With a lower close in this stock today, it will confirm that it has put in an intermediate top.

Yesterday, Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) put in a Japanese candlestick pattern known as "a dark cloud cover." This is confirmed as a top if the market closes lower today, September 17th. Candlestick patterns can be very powerful. This is not to say that Netflix has put in an all-time top, but rather in the interim the market has stopped going up and is probably going to see a pullback.

NETFLIX TOPPING
Pullbacks are always interesting and I like to use our Fibonacci retracement tool to measure them. In 2013, most of the pullbacks were in $30-$40 range. Measuring from the recent high of $314.18 on September 11th and subtracting $40, takes us down to $274 area. Coincidentally this is very close to a 50% Fibonacci retracement if we measure from the recent high on September 11th to the low seen on July 25th at $239.91.

I have two other concerns with Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX). We are at a cyclic high and the MACD is beginning to roll over, which is similar to what happened in the May and July periods.

Please be aware I am not recommending shorting Netflix, as the longer-term trend for Netflix remains positive and I can see this market doing well longer term as it dominates the space of streaming video and home entertainment.

Let's watch today's close in Netflix very carefully. A close below the $301.13 level will represent a new 5-day low close for this stock.

This is just a heads up that Netflix may be running into some headwinds and profit taking.

Please feel free to leave a comment or your own view on the stock.

Have a great trading day,
